Kyle Busch Holds Off a Late Charge From Brad Keselowski to Win at Chicagoland

Kyle Busch was able to hold off Brad Keselowski on the last run at Chicagoland to win his fourth NCWTS race of the season. The leaders came to pit road for their final stops on lap 100 and Busch came out as the leader. Keselowski was able to get past Busch on the final restart, but Busch quickly passed him a few laps later. Busch held off Keselowski in the final few laps to win his fourth race in only eight attempts in the NCWTS this year. Like I have said before this year, Busch has won in everything and anything he jumps in and I have no doubts that that will continue for the rest of the season. The points battle continues to be dominated by Matt Crafton. Crafton continued his streak of top 10s on the season with his sixteenth in a row. James Buescher continued to chase down Crafton with another good finish, but his time could be running out. The race had amazing side by side action for the lead and many of the top spots for most of the night. Plus, the series points battle continues to heat up as the season nears the end.

Jeb Burton started on the pole. It was his fifth pole of 2013 as a rookie in the series. The race went green and he was able to lead the first lap after the top 3 went three wide into turn 1 on the first lap. On lap 3, Miguel Paludo, who had initiated the three wide battle entering turn 1 on the first lap, was penalized by NASCAR for jumping too early on the initial start. He was black flagged and forced to come down pit road. In the process, he went down a lap to the leader. The race went a short while before the first caution waved on lap 13. Bryan Silas went for a spin on the backstretch of the track. He stopped on the apron and was able to get back going after getting his truck straightened out. Miguel Paludo received the lucky dog. The caution period held a little bit of strategy. Jeb Burton, Ty Dillon, Brendan Gaughan, and Joey Coulter stayed on track while the drivers behind them came in to top off with fuel. It would be interesting to see if this move paid off for the four drivers who stayed out.

The race went back green and Ty Dillon was able to pass Jeb Burton for the lead in turn 1 on the first lap after the restart, but Burton was able to pass him in turn 3 of the same lap for the lead. Burton led for a good while after the restart, but Brad Keselowski was able to get past him on lap 44. This led to the second caution of the race on lap 48. Jennifer Jo Cobb's truck began to smoke in turn 2 due to a blown engine. Justin Jennings hit the wall after sliding in oil on the track. Scott Riggs received the lucky dog. Another bit of strategy occurred under the caution. All the lead lap drivers came to pit road for four tires and fuel with Brad Keselowski coming out as the leader. Jeb Burton had a little bit of trouble on his stop. His team did a good job on the stop, but his truck got stuck on the jack and he couldn't pull away immediately. He was able to work himself free and get out of the pits, but he fell all the way back to sixth position after leading before his stop. It would be interesting to see if he could correct the mistake.

The race went back green and Kyle Busch was able to pass Brad Keselowski for the lead. Keselowski would not back down immediately as the two began to battle side by side. The two battled side by side for a few laps until Keselowski got loose in turn 3 on lap 59, allowing Busch to pull away a little bit. He would not pull away enough as Ryan Blaney passed him on lap 60 for the lead. This led to a race contender having trouble. On lap 64, Darrell Wallace Jr. made an unscheduled pit stop. He felt he had a tire going down and his team decided to make a four tire stop. The team made the stop and Wallace was able to get back on track, but he lost a good bit of time. A few laps after this, Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch made contact while battling for the lead on lap 67 and Busch was able to grab the lead. This led to the third caution of the race on lap 68. Mike Harmon's truck began to smoke on track and deposit oil on the surface of the track. Jeff Agnew received the lucky dog. A little bit more strategy occurred during the caution. Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, James Buescher, Brendan Gaughan, and Miguel Paludo stayed on track while Ryan Blaney and others pitted just for fuel with the rest of the drivers taking either two or four tires. It would be interesting to see which strategy worked to give a driver the victory.

The race went back green and Kyle Busch was able to hold onto the lead. The race went for a short time until the fourth caution of the race on lap 75. Scott Riggs made contact with another driver exiting turn 4, causing Riggs to slam the outside wall and get extensive damage. He would stop on track and have his truck towed back to the garage, but he would not return to the race. Darrell Wallace Jr. received the lucky dog. A weird situation happened under the caution. Kyle Busch, who was leading, was told by NASCAR to come down pit road. The transponder on his truck, which allows NASCAR to track lap times and speed, had fallen off his truck. He came down pit road and the transponder was replaced, but it did not put Busch back in the field because NASCAR had told the team to come down pit road. None of the other leaders came down pit road as Busch returned to the track with the lead. The race went back green and Busch was able to hold onto the lead. On lap 85, Brad Keselowski was able to pass Busch for the lead. The race went a short time after this before the fifth and final caution on lap 100. Timothy Peters went up the track on the frontstretch because he thought he was clear of Ryan Sieg, but he wasn't. The two made contact and Peters slammed the outside wall. Peters went down behind the inside wall with the truck still running, but it was destroyed and he would not return to the race. Jimmy Weller received the lucky dog. All the drivers came to pit road for their crucial final pit stop. Kyle Busch came out as the leader after his stop. We would soon find out if this led to a win for him and his team.

The race went back green for the final time and Brad Keselowski was able to pass Busch for the lead. Keselowski held onto the lead well at the beginning of the run. Busch got really close to taking the lead on lap 117, but he got loose while making the move. Busch would try one more time on lap 126 and he would take the lead easily from Keselowski, but Brad K had twenty four laps to get the lead back. The two ran nose to tail with Busch gaining one lap and Keselowski gaining the next. The race moved within ten laps of the finish and Busch still held the lead. With five laps to go, Busch continued to hold station at the front of the field. Finally, Busch took the white flag in the lead. Busch came back around to win his fourth race of the year in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. It was another dominating win for Busch as Matt Crafton continued his top 10 streak.

Wow, is there anything Kyle Busch can't do behind the wheel of a race vehicle? He has won ten races in the NASCAR Nationwide Series this year, he has won four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races this year, he has four NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victories, and he even has three late model victories. Plus, he can do burnouts sitting outside of his race vehicles and save himself when he almost falls like he saved himself after last night's race. Once again, Brad Keselowski came just short of winning his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, but he will be back again for a chance at that win soon. Matt Crafton continued his consistent ways. He finished fourth and still sits first in the points after his sixteenth top 10 of the season. James Buescher and Ty Dillon did not finish bad either, but Crafton still finds a way to run a little bit better. The series takes a week off before heading to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for some Friday night racing. Will Matt Crafton gain retribution at Las Vegas after losing the previous race there on the final lap, will James Buescher continue his good runs, or will another driver win and get a little closer to Crafton's championship lead? We will have to wait two weeks to find out.
